Shakespeare Outing | 3/4/5th – liceo

Last Thursday, October 6th, we went to see Shakespeare’s play Othello with our class and the third and fifth liceo at the Teatro Olimpico in Rome, located in the Flaminio neighborhood. There were many students who, like us, went to see the play with their schools.

Othello is a great classic of Shakespearean literature that deals with the theme of jealousy, which will be the cause of misunderstandings, fights and even murders.

Overall it was a good show, the actors were very capable and were able to handle the somewhat rowdy audience. Many of us students found understanding the lines challenging because the lines were spoken very quickly, and because of the dated language Shakespeare used, which is Early Modern English.  Fortunately, last year we had studied Shakespeare’s writing style and the pronouns he used, which made it easier for us to understand.

The performance was very well received, which could also be perceived by the applause from the audience. In general, it was a positive experience and a more enjoyable and engaging way to learn new things.
